ABOUT Asuka

MLH

Asuka Kazama was born and grew up  in Tokyo, now she lives in Paris. She is multifaceted artist.

After Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama High School, she graduated from Kyoritsu Women's University in Tokyo ( section French Language and Literature in the Faculty of Art and Letters in 2003). After a period of work in Tokyo, she moved to Strasbourg to study : She graduated in Design of Applied Art at the University of Strasbourg in 2007, diploma of Art, at l' Ecole supérieure des Arts décoratifs de Strasbourg in 2010 and Master of Visual Arts, University of Strasbourg in 2014.

She talked about her work : ""  I worked a lot of rain work in Strasbourg. I could draw outside with safe and the rain was perfect, a little rain and short time. But since I came to Paris, there are a lot of pollution, not so clean on the road, and a few space to work. The environment has changed. I tried to draw with rain, but because of the global warming, the rain became to violent and so strong that I can't have a good effect with rain for my work and so dangerous for the health. My old rain work are so precious because we can't have good rain any more....Maybe I can do when I have chance to have good  rain and to be in a good garden.

Now you can discover my matured work. In fact, I draw my cry of my heart since my childhood I am only child so I was often alone, these things were coming out, Paris made me free, the line of my work is free with Japanse calligraphy experience (the periode when I was 7years-15years. Her calligraphy was exibitionned in Tokyo Metropolitan Gouvernment in 1998, and the Naritasan for several times ) ""

She wants to express creative scenes in everyday life. She also works imaginary characters with a sense of humor like Miro. Her work is like a dream or cloud ; something that we can recognise, but ephemeral. It exists but it does not exist. She is interested in transformation.

Her technique is various. Watercoulour, paper, oil, acrylic, gouache, ink, photo, collage etc...
